This application is an interactive, map-centric tool for viewing base elementary, middle, and high school base attendance areas in Wake County Public School System.
The data used to create this application include base attendance area boundaries and school locations for the current school year. When the assignment plan for the following year is approved by the Wake County Board of Education (BOE), typically in November, the base attendance area boundaries and school locations are activated in the application. Additionally, BOE district boundaries and a comprehensive collection of WCPSS sites can be viewed.
This application allows users to explore base attendance areas and school for a given grade level and school year. By selecting and option from the Map View selector, users can change what grade level and school year they see on the map. Users can select an individual school from the Base School selector to focus on a single, specific school's base attendance area and location. Additionally, a search widget affords users the option to search an address and see that location atop the map. Finally, An export widget provides the functionality to create a basic, static map in a variety of image formats.
This map was built in an effort to share information about WCPSS base attendance areas and school locations for use by District staff, the BOE, and the public so that all parties can work from a common operating picture. By sharing as an interactive web application, WCPSS can ensure that the remains up-to-date throughout the year.
